Property Description
Villa Lionti – Etna sleeps 3

Villa Lionti is an ancient and impressive building made of lava stone, set in a sunny and quiet location at the limits of San Pietro Clarenza, a small hilly village (450 metres above sea level) populated by nearly 500 inhabitants, on the south-western slope of Mount Aetna. Surrounding the property is the Natural Park of the Aetna, an extraordinary landscape, in between rough expanses of lava and sweet scented citrus orchards, watched over by the fuming top of the highest active volcano in Europe. La Riviera dei Ciclopi (the coast of the Cyclops) is full of myths and legends, with its peculiar fishermen’s hamlets Aci Trezza and Aci Castello. This group of buildings, dating back to the 18th century still maintains the original architectural features brought back to its primitive charm through a recently completed accurate restoration. The exclusive residence is made up of the main building (consisting of the master’s house and Alcova) and other outbuildings (the remaining 3 lodgings we offer, and the old millstone which has been turned into a library and reading-room) Particularly impressive and alluring is the internal courtyard (il baglio) with its ancient reservoir, herb garden, mills court and the patio of the sails; all around extends a huge garden with English meadow and aromatic and ornamental plants. In a secluded but convenient part of the estate, the guests can enjoy the big swimming pool, which is open from April 15 to October 14. All four elegant and refined apartments have been furnished with ancient style furniture in good taste and all have independent entrances and their own patio equipped with garden furniture. The discreet presence of the owner guarantees helpful assistance. Private parking inside the property. Central heating (extra price). Pets are not allowed. Shared services: outside kitchenette and oven, barbeque, washing machine and outside shower. The nearest grocer and bar are 700 metres away. Shops, banks and restaurants are 2 km away. Horse riding is 3 km away. Golf course is 50 km away. Beach with sand and rocks is 12 km away

Description of the area
San Pietro Clarenza is a small village of nearly 5000 people, 450 metres above sea level, along one of the routes skirting Mount Aetna, the highest active volcano in Europe. The main activity of the village is agriculture. It produces oil, wine, fruit and citrus fruit. It is also very well known for its beautiful embroidery. In 1669 San Pietro Clarenza was destroyed by a volcanic eruption and in 1693 by an earthquake. The village was soon rebuilt and named San Pietro because of its citizen’s religious devotion to this saint. In 1779 the name Clarenza was added thanks to the purchase of the small town by a noble, Giuseppe Marina Clarenza. On the outskirts it is possible to admire the landscape of the volcanic hinterland and the panorama of the Cyclopes Coast with its isolated crags in the sea (faraglioni) where legend has it that Polyphemus threw Ulysses. Worth visiting are Acireale, famous for its carnival, Aci Trezza, the place where the Sicilian writer Giovanni Verga set the novel “I Malavoglia: L’Oasi del Simeto (natural oasis) and the several baroque districts of Catania, which is 20 km away. Acireale is 20 km away, Taormina 40 km away, Siracusa 60 km away, Caltagirone 65 km away, Noto 90 km away and Agrigento is 150 km away.
