Property Description
Where the boarders of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio meet is where you will find the cooking school of Castello di Santa Maria. The origins of the Castello go back to the 13th Century when a hermitage was built on the ruins of a pagan temple. In the 16th Century it was enlarged by the Congregation of the Servants of Mary, to its present size. In the 18th Century the Convent was entrusted to the Bagnoregio Diocese and stayed in its hands until just after the First World War when it was sold to private owners who have restored it to its former glory. All guests stay at the Castello, where cooking classes are held on 5 mornings of your 8 day program. The cooking school is taught by Serena, who trained at the Institut Hotellerie et Arts Culinaires "Paul Bocuse" in Lyon The 14th to 16th Century architectural features have been carefully maintained, and all the rooms have been fitted with every modern convenience including air conditioning, television and video players to make your stay as comfortable and as pleasant as possible. The Castello di Santa Maria is an ideally situated location for easily exploring the cities of Florence and Rome, the towns of Orvieto, Todi, Perugia, Assisi, San Gimignano, Seina, and the wineries of the Chianti region. All the bedrooms of the Castello are on the second floor and guests who appreciate its unique atmosphere will enjoy the library, paintings, the mysterious play of light and shadow and the sensation of living in another age Our menus range from classical and local to international dishes and are prepared with the greatest of care. Serena, a graduate of the Institut Hotellerie et Arts Culinaires "Paul Bocuse" in Lyon, is our head chef and she will lead the school.
